Lisette Garcia- Stage 3 Colon Cancer.

Lisette suffered from digestive problems for over a year. Doctors dismissed her symptoms as diet-related and suggested she increase her supplement and probiotic intake, but to no avail. In May of 2011, Lisette began experiencing severe stomach pain. Days later, she was forced to visit the emergency room and a mass blocking her intestines was removed in an emergency procedure. The mass was a cancerous tumor and Lisette was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer. Stage 3 means the cancer has affected the nearby lymph nodes. It is extremely rare to have a diagnosis of Colon Cancer in a person under the age of 50. Lisette is 37-years-old.

Lisette's cancer diagnosis has brought with it challenges beyond the obvious. She is the primary caretaker of her mother who suffers from Alzheimers, and juggles this responsibility with her position as a Faculty Fellow at NYU.

The friends and family of Lisette recognize that she is shouldering more emotional, physical and financial stress than anyone should be expected to handle. Therefore, we would like to relieve, at the very least, some of the financial pressures brought on by her cancer diagnosis and treatment.
