Early in the morning on Saturday, July 29, 2017, Chris was doing what he did every Saturday for over 40 years…
driving to CRL in Vernon to open the building and get it ready for customers and his fellow employees.
Nobody told Chris to do this; it was just something he knew needed to be done and
he took the initiative to be the one to make sure it was done.

At around 4:10a, Chris saw an accident on the other side of the freeway.
He stopped his car in the center divider and went over the short wall to aid the victims of the accident,
one of whom was trapped in an overturned vehicle.  While he was helping, another vehicle approached the accident scene at high speed, as it was early in the morning and traffic was light.  It was still dark and the car came
upon the scene too fast and struck the vehicle Chris was assisting.
The resulting impact was fatal for Chris and one other person.

Why did he stop to help?
Those of us who knew Chris understand that is just the way he was.
He knew that something the needed to be done, and knew he could help so he  took the initiative.
It would have been easy to just keep driving, but that just wasn’t Chris’ character.

Chris was a man of deep faith and committed to his family.  He leaves his wife, Joyce, and five adult children.
He was a valued team member at the company where he worked his entire adult life and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, his friends at C.R. Laurence Co., where Chris worked for 44 years,
have established a memorial fund to honor Chris.  The proceeds will be placed in trust to provide
lifetime support to his two youngest sons, Zach and Joe.
We hope to raise a substantial amount to maintain the principal indefinitely and provide enough
income to provide supplemental support for Zach and Joe.

Thank you for your support and prayers.
