Cara's Fund Cara Marie Swartz - “Swartzy” Our beautiful girl was diagnosed with Acute NK Cell Leukaemia on 29 October 2009. Despite her intense and unwavering focus on beating this insidious disease, she sadly succumbed to it on 25 January 2010, less than three months after her diagnosis and exactly one week short of her 27th birthday. Cara died not knowing the seriousness of her disease – and she did not want to know – she was, in her mind – going through a tough patch, but she was determined to fight and win – and get back to normal as soon as she could. Little is known of Cara’s disease. We know it is very rare. We know that it is almost universally fatal. We don’t know why Cara was stricken with this disease. We don’t know why she was taken from us so suddenly. We know absolutely that she touched the lives of many, many people. Cara lived a vibrant, energetic life, filled with positive energy, and it spilled over to those around her. She is gone from our eyes, but not from our hearts. We will miss her and love her forever. There are many things we want to do in Cara’s memory and we would like your assistance. The Talbert Foundation passes on 100% of all donations received in Cara’s name. We would like to use this money to raise awareness in younger people of the incredible importance of donating blood, plasma and platelets, and registering as bone marrow donors. Donors can save not just one – but many lives – without having to lose their own. Thank You !
